Mandalas

Our mandalas were personalized projects that were tailored around the interests and personalities of each student.

I introduced students to Chinese philosophies on medicine and the influence of the 5 elements (metal, water, earth, fire and earth). Also we looked at mandalas from around the world including Australian Aboriginal people, Native American mandalas, european cathedrals, Buddhist sand painting and Bay Area artists.

In creating them students learned about radial symmetry, how to use drafting tools, elements and principals of design and how to create a finished work of art. Their work was displayed in the Arts Education center as a part of the Season of Service project and were viewed by the school and its visitors.
