Easy Silk Flower Dying with Acrylic

I've been holding on to some white flowers for awhile so I decided to dye them peach to use this fall. I didn't want to buy more paint so instead I used some leftover acrylic I had. These are pre-made pouring paints but regular craft paint would have worked also.

If you are trying this you will also also needed:
 -Cup to mix the paint
 -Paper towels
 -straw or spray bottle
-optional glitter spray paint

I washed the flowers in the sink and filled the basin with about an inch of water. Just enough to let the flowers dip into it a little. These flowers are very lightly cream and some have pinkish centers, I want them to have more of a yellow-orange tint.

I mixed a couple tablespoons of the yellow and just a drop of red into about 1/3 cup of water. (add more water if using craft paint)
Using a straw to pick up the paint, I dribbled the mix all over the flowers and let the color bleed into the wet petals.
If I missed a spot I just rubbed the flowers together. They dried for a few hours.  I recommend cleaning and acrylic around the sink as you don't want to let that dry and stick to it.
This is optional but I sprayed mine lightly with a glitter spray to give a little sparkle.

When they were just a bit Damp I moved them to the counter.  I had a yummy snack. It's important to not forget to eat when crafting!  Yes those are sprinkles.

I tried to place some flowers on cardstock to see if it would make a print.  It didn't work very well as the paint was too runny, but the flowers in the red paper did lift some of the color just on the petal tips which was a nice unexpected touch.

After they fully dried I placed them back on their stems and they were ready to go. I like how they are tinted with the color instead of looking super flat. The pinks in some of the original color show up as well.

Next time I would like to try this out with regular craft paint and see if I can get it to full coverage. Hmm, maybe a springtime project.
